Restoring calm to a coastal family home.

Stillwater Residence is a 1970s timber house reworked for a family who wanted more light, more storage, and a stronger connection to the water. The renovation keeps the character of the original structure while giving it a clearer, more generous plan.

The Brief

Small rooms, dated finishes, and limited views made the house feel closed off from its setting. The family needed flexible living spaces and better thermal comfort without losing the modesty of the original architecture.

Design Response

We opened the ground floor into a sequence of connected spaces, enlarged key openings toward the water, and re-clad the exterior in dark-stained timber. Inside, a calm palette of pale wood and plaster carries light deep into the plan.
