[ Project overview ]

An outdoor room designed for stillness.

Courtyard Living transforms an underused central courtyard into a calm outdoor room. A reflecting pool, a single multi-stem tree, and a restrained planting palette create a space that changes gently with the seasons.

The Brief

The courtyard was overlooked by several rooms but rarely used. The clients wanted a place to sit, read, and gather that felt private, low-maintenance, and visually connected to the interiors.

Design Response

We introduced a shallow reflecting pool to bounce light into the surrounding rooms, framed by honed stone paving and generous built-in seating. Planting is layered in soft greens and grasses to bring movement without visual noise.

[ Outcome ]

The courtyard has become the heart of the home — a quiet room open to the sky that is enjoyed from inside and out, throughout the year.
